Chicago Cubs Announced As 6th Spirit of Youth Award Recipient At Launch Party

Spirit of Youth co-chairs Michele Lehman and Jim Criner reveal to attendees that the Chicago Cubs will be the recipient of the 6th Spirit of Youth award.

NRS announced that the Chicago Cubs will be presented with the 2008 Spirit of Youth award on November 7, 2008.  The announcement was made on February 27th at NRS’ Spirit of Youth Launch Party here in Chicago.

Since 1991, the Cubs' support of Cubs Care has resulted in grants of more than $12 million to Chicago non-profit organizations.   Grants help support non-profit organizations which aid children with special needs, provide youth sports programs, assist victims of domestic violence and serve the Chicago community.

Since 2005, the Cubs, Cubs Care and NRS have teamed up annually to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for runaway and homeless youth in Chicago. Each year at the event, Cubs executives, broadcasters and staff volunteer to prepare and serve the meal.

Attendees of the launch party mingled with board members and staff to celebrate the announcement.

The goal of Spirit of Youth is to raise $150,000 to support NRS' mission to keep America's runaway and at-risk youth safe and off the streets.  The event will be held for the second year in a row at the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago.  Past award recipients include rapper/entertainer Chris "Ludacris" Bridges and the Ludacris Foundation, author Alex Kotlowitz, and the Playboy Foundation.
